March 30, 2011 – The widow of Steve Irvin was recently being talked about for quietly selling off the couple’s multimillion dollar properties owned by the star couple.
It has been hard times for the Australia Zoo. Mrs. Irwin had no choice but to place several Sunshine coast properties on the market. Zoo exhibits and expansion were put on hold for the moment. Mrs Irwin blamed the wet summer for affecting the number of zoo visitors that eventually led to the laying off of employees.
Four lots were for sale. The lots directly border the zoo on Fraser and Bunney roads, Beerwah, and were originally purchased back when the plans for expansion were still being realized.
The largest house for sale was the 95 hectares parcel at Peachester. It comes with views of the Glass House Mountains. It is for sale for $1.25 million.
Mrs. Irwin sold a $1.3 million luxury property, but sold it with a loss of $380,000. Next property sold was the family’s $3.22 million home at Minyama, the Sunshine Coast’s millionaire’s row.
Beerwah Real estate agents had sworn not to leak who the new owners are of these properties. But speculations arise and people strongly pointed out that the new owners are Silverback Properties Pty Ltd or Rosette Properties Pty Ltd, yet interestingly, the sole owner is Terri Irwin.
At the time of his death in 2006, Steve Irwin and Terri had admitted to have an estimated value of their properties worth $20 million.
These include 33,730 hectares of former grazing land at St George. Another property is a 1092 hectare at Emu Creek, southwest of Blackbutt, and 115 hectares located at Landsborough.
After Steve Irwin died, Terri made some deals including the 135,000 hectares at Wenlock on Cape York, of which a $6 million federal grant was given.
She also made a land swap with the State Government last year, handing over a 200 hectares parcel at the foot of Mt Beerwah in exchange for state forest located at the south of the zoo for the zoo’s planned expansion.
But now, the expansions are put on hold. The Madagascar Island and the African Safari Resort are still but just plans. It will still take a long time for it to be realized since everything is still put on hold.
